SAP Announced as Leader in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce

This makes SAP the only vendor to have the ‘Leader’ position continuously since the report first came out in 2014.

SAP has been named ‘Leader’ in the 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Digital Commerce for the ninth year in a row. This announcement means that SAP is the only vendor named leader in this category every year since 2014.

According to Gartner, leaders in the Digital Commerce category “demonstrate the ability to provide a depth and breadth of commerce functionality” and “often set the competitive benchmark against which other vendors measure themselves.”

In her recent LinkedIn post, Ritu Bhargava (President and Chief Product Officer, Industries and Customer Experience at SAP) says their secret to success is their “new industry-first approach that integrates customer, experiential, and operational data with the power of AI and ML”.

Gartner also published an accompanying Critical Capabilities for Digital Commerce report, where it ranked SAP #1 for:

  • B2B Digital Commerce Use Case
  • B2C and B2B Digital Commerce running on the Same Platform Use Case
  • Complex Business Model Use Case

Our Chief Customer Officer, Thomas Ziegler, commented on SAP’s continued success: “SAP has always been dedicated to driving their customers’ business into hyper-drive with the power of industry-leading digital commerce solutions. And when you consider their new approach to composable commerce, it’s easy to see they will remain a leader in this area for years to come.”

SAP Commerce Cloud Composable Offering

Earlier this year, SAP announced its new Commerce Cloud composable offering to address today’s complex and multi-channel marketplace.

The SAP take on composability signifies an entirely new approach compared to what has been on the market. This offering takes into account the uniqueness of different industries and businesses and breaks away from the ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to composability.

The main advantage of the SAP Commerce Cloud composable offering is the flexibility it provides to companies, depending on their context and digital maturity. It’s up to businesses to choose if they want to rely on a more traditional ‘all-in-one’ approach for things like order or product information management. Or if they wish to compose a truly ‘best-of-breed’ solution more appropriate for digitally mature companies.

As part of this new approach to composable commerce, SAP is partnering with leading technology vendors to ensure a thriving ecosystem their customers will benefit from. These include some of our valued partners, such as Akeneo, Contentful, Coveo, and Mirakl.

Our CEO Martin Barzauner said about the new SAP composable approach: ”We are excited to offer the SAP composable offering to our customers and build unforgettable experiences together. Its flexibility and the industry-first approach make it a unique offering on the market, and we believe it will genuinely make a difference in our customers’ success.”
